CAT - entrance exam for MBA

CAT is an entrance exam for getting into Iims (top business schools in India).Many other famous business schools also accepting cat score like central universities. The competition level for this exam is quite high comparing with many other entrance exams like GATE, GRE, GMAT, TOFEL etc.It is difficult to get a seat in Indian Business schools than foreign Business Schools. But in India the common age of a MBA graduates in 21to24 unlike 28 to 30 in foreign .In foreign it is difficult to get a seat in good Business school without work experience .Where as in India it is quite possible but we have to score more percentile.

Now the exam become computer based exam (not computer adaptive exam).It contains three sections
1.) Quantitative Ability (It contains all basic math’s like algebra, ratio proportion , geometry, trigonometry etc.)
2.) Data Interpretation (It contains pie charts, bar graphs, analysis of data, data sufficiency etc.)
3.) Verbal Ability (It contains questions based on grammar, Reading comprehension, vocabulary)

Group Discussion

Group Discussions and Personal Interviews are the next step after completion of entrance exam process. In the exam process they (Institutes) only see our academic qualification They not really know what we are ( our personality).

These Group Discussions and personal Interviews help them(Institutes) to achive the above. They use various evaluation techniques to identify really what we are so it is better for us to acquire the qualification's(skills like leadership qualities, team facilitation, positive attitude) required by the MBA professionals.Even though it is difficult to achive these in a few days but we can diffently achive some of them with possitive mind.

One of the most important thing which plays a vital role is our Confidence . Attending mock GD's with friend's or in an institute helps a lot.We should note some things while the Group Discussion is going on so It is advisable to maintain a notse. It is also useful to summarise the points in Group Discussion. Divide the page into two parts and one side write your thouts and ideas other side write ideas came across in the discussion(by other participants).

you must appear at least four to five times in a eight minutse GD(Group Discussion). And you can use many approaches to beging the topic like keyword approach to got the topic. For example the topic is " capitalisation or libaralisation which is good for our country" by keyword approach you have to analyse the topic like what is capitalisation and what is libaralisation like that. And you not suppose to begin the topic untill unless you think you can make a right contribution to the topic given.

Some expected questions in personal interview(common for many MBA institutes)

Tell me about your self?( for this question they expect you to tell about how your skills contribute MBA because they already know your personal details through resume)?
Why you choose this Business School?
Why you choose MBA while other options u have (like higher degree,job etc)?
How do u think this institute better than others?( you can tale place it situated like that)

you may expect some technical questions relating to your stream

you may stop Other group members by saying phrases like "I am agreeing with you".you should not give gap in the sentenses while you saying because somebody may interfere you .

It is difficult to remember the names of the group members in short period of time so you can call them by numbers like num1,num2 etc.

Some Institutes give Group Task also in the selection process. It is a task you have to solve by coordinating with other team members.
